When your content becomes an SEO problem

Content is an asset to your website’s search engine optimisation. Most SEO companies encourage their clients to get working on content as soon as possible, because it forms the ground in which the seeds of SEO, keywords, can be planted. Good content is essential to a site’s success in the search engine results pages, but it can also get a website into trouble if not handled correctly.

Quality content is becoming more important to the health of a site as time goes by. The search engines are placing an increasing reliance on pleasing Internet users when calculating a site’s rankings. Content plays a key role in pleasing your site’s users. It often makes the difference between retaining a user on the page or bouncing them right back to the search engine. You might well ask, if content’s so great, how on earth could it cause you any problems?

Dynamic content issues

One of the ways in which content presents a problem is if your architecture produces dynamic content. Any time content is presented as a response to a query from a site user, that’s dynamic content. It presents a problem because (more…)

The value of SEO maintenance

Imagine this scenario: you’ve completed your site’s optimisation, and everything is going swimmingly. Because you ignored so many other factors of your business during the search engine optimisation process, you leave your site alone for a couple of weeks to get everything else sorted out. Eventually, you remember the advice of your SEO company and start posting some fresh content. You also stick in a couple of links to some associates, because they’ve promised to link to you. After just a few months, your entire site is a mess.

A regular maintenance schedule is essential for the long-term health of your site. Most companies will already have a site maintenance routine before they approach SEO, which might involve checking code and backing up files regularly. Your optimisation maintenance schedule should be easily slotted into your regular (more…)

Structure your internal links for SEO

Inbound links can be a huge boost for your site’s SEO, but you shouldn’t forget that your internal links can be just as helpful as well. One of the major advantages of internal links is that you have complete control over them. While you have to rely on the kindness of others for your external links, or other link building tactics, your internal links have exactly the link text, position and frequency you desire.

Many businesses overlook their internal linking structure for long periods of time. This is understandable. It can be hard to keep on top of your site’s structure, particularly if you’re adding constant fresh content as well. Maintenance of your internal links should make up part of your regular search engine optimisation maintenance routine. It’s important to make sure that your link structure is (more…)

How to write quality linkbait: the five Ws

The five Ws are an old standby for the news industry. Every journalist learns that a good news story has to explain the what, who, where, when and why. A secret of all writing is that the five Ws are of infinite interest to any reader. If you want to draw them in, set out the exact circumstances of the story. The five Ws is something you can use in a different way when creating linkbait for search engine optimisation.

Good linkbait needs to have a certain something that will fascinate Internet users. This is getting harder and harder to discover as more businesses compete for attention. A knowledge of the five Ws will give you an advantage when (more…)

What to expect from initial SEO

If you’re new to the world of search engine optimisation, the first months of any contact with an SEO firm can be very confusing. The SEO industry is very generous with information, but one of the subjects that is very rarely covered is what, exactly, will happen when you first optimise. This can be unsettling for a business that’s first approaching optimisation.

Different SEO companies will approach optimisation differently, and you can discuss this with us at Stuck On. Most companies will cover similar areas, however, which will usually include the following:

SEO analysis: This is the very first step in any SEO campaign, and often happens before a business has even signed on with a search engine optimisation company. Search engine optimisation companies frequently offer SEO analysis for free, both as an incentive to new clients and as (more…)

Don’t fall into old SEO traps

Search engine optimisation has been around for a fair while now as an industry. Its history is rich with progress and change, and it’s worthwhile paying attention to how the industry evolved in order for us to better understand it. Most of these changes are in the way of old techniques being banned – hence why it’s so important to keep on to of the changes, and avoid the SEO mistakes made by so many people.

Too many site owners who are new to SEO make very old mistakes when optimising their site. SEO is a technical subject, which is why many businesses rely on a professional search engine optimisation company for the SEO work itself. If you do go it alone, there are some things you need to be on the lookout for during your optimisation.

Cloaked information: Hiding information, or ‘cloaking’, is a big SEO no-no, but it can sometimes happen without you being aware of it. It doesn’t help that hiding text was once an approved optimisation technique, when the industry was still (more…)

Internet marketing requires a more subtle approach

If you look through various magazines and TV channels you’ll see advertising at its most base level. These forms of advertising are aimed at those who watch TV incessantly, and read magazines about celebrities, diet tips and what they should be wearing.

This is hard sell advertising, perfected over decades. Internet advertising on the other hand is very different, and the use of hard sell advertising online does not work. There are many reasons for this, but the main one is the intellect of the audience. Internet users are more savvy than the target TV watching market, and they know when someone is trying to sell them something.

Adverts that are blatantly adverts will be ignored, almost without thought, due to something known as ‘ad blindness’. Since the Internet first started, websites and marketers have used it to try and sell products. One of the most common forms of advertising is the (more…)
